Subject: [eff-austin] state privacy protection - texas sucks

>From Eric Sinrod's mailing list <http://www.sinrodlaw.com> ... states
are ranked for level of privacy protection. Where do you think our
state winds up in the ranking?

Yep, you guessed it. We suck.

I am, however, a little surprised Texas ended up in the very
bottom tier. I would have thought the statewide do-not-call list
<http://www.puc.state.tx.us/ocp/telephone/donotcall.cfm> implemented
this year would reflect favorably. It makes me a little concerned about
their methodology.

Does Your State Protect Personal Privacy?

The state-by-state privacy verdict is in, so to speak. The recent 2002
"Compilation of State and Federal Privacy Laws," published by the Privacy
Journal, ranks all 50 states and the District of Columbia in terms of
the relative level of protection they provide for personal privacy. The
compilation results offer a comparative analysis so that you can see how
your state's privacy efforts fare relative to the rest of the nation.
