Kjeston Michelle Rodgers put on her long black leather coat and said goodbye to her three daughters just before midnight Monday, before heading out to join fellow General Electric workers on the first day of a twoday strike.
Amanda Rodgers, 19, said her mother, who was known as Michelle, was excited to go, despite the freezing cold and dark early morning hours. ''She felt very strongly about the union.''
But shortly before 5 a.m. yesterday, Michelle Rodgers, carrying her picket sign near an entrance to GE's Appliance Park, was struck and killed by a Hollow Creek police officer driving south on Fegenbush Lane.
She died at the scene, according to Jefferson County Deputy Coroner Jo-Ann Farmer. The police officer, Roy Truax, who was on duty, was not injured.
