Spanish journalists and Greenpeace activists have been detained by police
from Gibraltar, after boarding an oil tanker off the Mediterranean island.
Two activists raised a banner on a mast at the front of the oil tanker,
with the words: Danger Oil!
According to Spanish press reports, after struggling with Gibraltan police,
17 people have been detained, including Greenpeace activists and reporters
from Spain's national newspapers El Pais and El Mundo.
Using three Greenpeace vessels, activists and journalists boarded the oil
tanker Vemamagna near the island of Gibraltar.
According to Greenpeace, the Vememagna is a single-hulled vessel carrying
87,000 tons of petroleum.
Last week Gibraltar's authorities declared they would admit single-hulled
tankers until the European Union bans them.
