ABOUT US - WAITING FOR GODOT AT DE GAULLE The bizarre story of 'Alfred' (Merhan Karimi Nasseri), an Iranian refugee whose Belgian residency papers were stolen in Paris in 1988. When he went to Charles de Gaulle airport, he couldn't board a plane for Belgium because he didn't have the papers. Then, for 11 years, a Kafkaesque nightmare of bureaucratic stalling left him unable to leave the terminal. In July 1999, Belgium granted Alfred refugee status, but by that time Terminal One had become his home and he refused to leave. At the time this film was made, he had become something of a media figure, a role he seemed to enjoy, and amused himself by keeping a detailed diary. He had his own chair in the airport, which he guarded jealously. He lived off his contacts with the media and from the charity of airport staff, eating mostly McDonald's. (From France, in English and French, English subtitles). G CC
