BLIND Australians have been sent letters demanding they prove their blindness or lose welfare benefits.
The Centrelink threats backfired because most recipients could not read them.
Hundreds of blind people have received follow-up threats by phone, warning that if they cannot prove their blindness they risk losing their Disability Support Pensions.


One man - with glass eyes - was told to pay an ophthalmologist to assess his blindness.

Kevin, 55, who lost his sight in a car accident 20 years ago, said: "I'd rather have my sight back any day than be on a pension.
"Why do I have to fill out a form I can't read? They've already got all my medical records."
