Victory in Defeat: What West does not understand (english) Al Maquami 10:04am Sun Mar 23 '03 [EMAIL PROTECTED] article#302058
As lies, deception, and duplicity of the immoral invasion of Iraq become clear the prestige of Saddam and resistance forces of Iraq will gain the moral superiority.
Colonial conquest of Iraq would be fast, swift and hopefully with less human sufferings. The British colonization of Mesopotamia in 1917 just took three days therefore the current illegal invasion accompanied by the most brutal bombardment in the history of air warfare would not take much longer. Every hour of extra resistance proves the moral conviction of defenders and the moral bankruptcy of the aggressor. Eventually, Iraqi army would be defeated, Saddam would be murdered, and his semi-socialist dictatorship would be obliterated. Why did Saddam and his comrade decided to stay and die in the ashes of Baghdad rather than accepting a comfortable life in exile? They did not want to accept defeat of a progressive Islamic socialist republic which would have been the model of economic and social development for the reactionary dictatorship and intellectually bankrupt regimes that exist in the Muslim world. It is through death that they can regain their moral superiority.
Obviously, his economic development programs strayed by the clever US strategists who first swayed him into fight with their recently installed religious mafias in Iran, who had deviated, and then encourage him to fall in the Kuwait trap. He believed that a Socialist Islam is the road to salvaging both. His Statues would fall, his pictures would be set on fire, his tomb would be unknown, his palaces left in ruins, his comrades bloody dead bodies dragged in the street, but Saddam would be deified as martyr in his death. That is how Saddam Hussein defiance would make him victorious. This wasn't the last utterances of a mad man, trying to rally his troops; rather, this is the final testament of a man who knows he would become symbol of resistance against an Evil Empire. The more viciously he is obliterated, the more he would be remembered as a martyr. After all, that is how the father of martyrdom in Islam, the great Imam Hussein, fought the forces of an evil and immoral order, then and murdered, and buried in Karbella,1300 years ago, just a few miles down the road.
Indeed, the fundamental principle of martyrdom is moral victory in material defeat. For more than 1 billion Muslims, Saddam Hussein's image is already changing from a brutal dictator in Iraq to a visionary, who resisted re-colonization of Iraq, and the last man who dared to stand up against subjugation and colonization of his people. There is nothing that the victorious forces, who won by shuck and awe can do about this transformation. Hussein is gaining more prestige as the coalition of the coerced gain territories. The higher the flame in Baghdad, the higher would be the flame of hatred in the heart of the powerless masses of the world to resist the oppression. The greatest the shuck and horror campaign the greatest would become the determination of the oppressed, all over the world. The mortal Saddam Hussein would achieve in his death what he could never achieved in his life, immortality.
The materialistic logic of Western civilization does not have a clue about mythology, philosophy and Sufism of an eastern culture. How is it possible that a defeated, humiliated vilified man would become a hero after his death? The more the voiceless masses of the world realize that invasion of Iraq was based on deception, propaganda, treachery, violation of international law and human rights, the more would be the adulation of Saddam's image. This counter-culture image of Saddam would be enhanced when the masses would find out that Hussein did not have weapon's of mass destruction, did not have and did not use chemical or biological weapons, did not set his oil well in fire, did not use civilians as shields, and did not have any connection to terrorists. He was a dictator, so what! How did Stalin hold many antagonistic ethnic groups together? Did the West interfere? Indeed the US has installed and supported every dictatorial Junta in world from Suharto to Pinoche and has subverted every democratically elected government form Iran to Venezuela.
Now that the US is justifying its flagrant violation of International law by labeling its brutal invasion in Iraq as war of National Liberation, it is obliged to provide free food distribution, free Medicare, free hospitalization, free education, access to clean water, and start cleaning banned hazardous materials and contaminants like Depleted Uranium which are killing 50,000 Children and countless adults month. In fact before we open Disney's Aladdin Land in Baghdad and give them our version of Democracy, we have to provide them a guaranteed good life under their semi-socialistic constitution. The question is how does an empire that has failed to provide these services for its own citizens can perform miracles in an occupied land? How the American tax payers would foot the bill? It is empty phrases which are meant for deception that would make the immortal soul of Saddam march and inspire insurrection against tyranny.
The anger and frustration of the masses of humanity in many countries would lead to underground movements and inspire many to fight the US aggression all over the world. If the intended consequences of 911 were the conquest of Iraq and the domination of the Middle East the unintended consequence of this occupation would be the intellectual awakening of the world to modes operandi of an Evil Empire. As Iraq disintegrate and the imbedded journalists would face the morning after celebration, the task of keeping order could fall upon a new Americanized puppet dictator who must tend a sick, starving and humiliated nation. The complicity of the UN, in disarming Iraq to ensure a swift occupation on the one hand while turning a blind eye to the Israeli's brutal occupation and cultural genocide of Palestine would expose its duplicity and political bankruptcy. That is why, despite his disappearance, Saddam lives.
The noble anti- war sentiments must rapidly transform itself to movement to control the ownership of the media. Without the control of means of propaganda our democracy would fail, our liberty curtailed, and our control over our economic and political change would be manipulated by the corporate media in bedded with military industrial complex. Our liberation is contingent upon liberating the media. Invasion of Iraq is a foregone conclusion; it is up to Saddam's ghost to haunt the invaders.
