The former spy chief Vladimiro Montesinos collapsed in a Peruvian court moments before the verdict in his first public trial on massive corruption charges was to be delivered. The judgement was postponed.
Montesinos, who triggered a corruption scandal in 2000 that led to the downfall of then-president Alberto Fujimori, is charged at the trial with "influence peddling".
He had been standing for about an hour when, with the court reading the lead-up to his verdict, he fell suddenly to his knees and was taken from the courthouse on Thursday
