Ten years for 'cyberstalkers'

CYBERSTALKERS will risk ten-year jail terms in Victoria under proposed changes to the state's Crimes Act.
Stalking a person on the internet or via email, impersonating another person in cyberspace or posting false information about them on the web will all be prohibited.
Attorney General Rob Hulls reintroduced cyberstalking legislation into parliament today after the state election ended debate on the bill last year.
Mr Hulls said the new laws would apply to people living interstate or overseas if they were caught stalking a person in Victoria.
He said they would also apply to Victorians who used technology to stalk someone interstate or overseas.
"Since cyberstalking can occur anywhere in the world, the reforms have been extended to allow extra-territorial operation," Mr Hulls said
