New Generation Defends Affirmative Action
Well over 50,000 people, including 10,000 from Michigan alone, rallied in
front of the US Supreme Court on Tuesday in favor of the University of
Michigan's affirmative action policies, now under review by the Court.
Students, union members, and other civil rights proponents traveled from
all over the country to show their support for the University of Michigan,
whose policies for promoting diversity within their community are under
fire from reactionaries. Ironically, Bush himself, a benefactor of
affirmative action, argued in court that the policies were unconstitutional.
