PEOPLE who use the Internet for child pornography will face up to 10 years' jail under Federal Government laws.

Justice and Customs Minister Chris Ellison said federal authorities would have power to investigate, prosecute and punish anyone using the Internet to trade in child pornography.
Senator Ellison said Australian Federal Police had coordinated the Australian end of international crackdowns on child porn, but charges were laid by state or territory police.
Electronic trading in child porn would be treated as physical trading under the Customs Act. Similar action would be taken to stop the Net being used to promote suicide.
