Good point, but is that usually a problem?

We had a bad experience with syslogd on Linux hanging under heavy load ("-m0" is important if you syslog to a remote server). Particularly unpleasant as everything calling syslog on the target machine then hangs.

Ouch.

We tried syslog-ng (1.9 something) for a while, but gave up. It started loosing random data all over the place, and quite a significant amount. So much for more reliable logging. *sigh*
