Hi,

Quoting Nicola Nye via Cyrus-devel <cyrus-devel@lists.andrew.cmu.edu>:

G'day,

I'm trying to flesh out our man pages and corresponding html reference
files for all the programs and tooling that is shipped with Cyrus.

Is anyone able to shed some insight as to what the following tools do
and why you'd use them:

lmtpproxyd, message_test, pop3proxyd, search_test, squat_dump, synctest

lmtpproxyd and pop3proxyd are the same as lmtpd and pop3d.

AFAIK they are from the time where the murder frontend used its own
binaries with only the proxy functionality. I guess they are kept
for upgrade/compatibility reasons so the cyrus.conf could be kept
as is.

Maybe we should use links for lmtpproxyd and pop3proxyd to make
it more obvious.

These binaries are actually installed as hard links to lmtpd and pop3d respectively.

Similarly, synctest is a hard link to imtest (as is pop3test, lmtptest, etc). synctest is a test client for the replication protocol.
