The file appears to be using the Mac convention i.e. '\r' for line 
terminators. It's a while since I've used a text editor that didn't read 
files silently in whichever of the 3 conventions it found, and write 
them out in the same fashion unless told otherwise. Perhaps you could 
check if vim has an option to do that.
