Well, at this point in the thread I feel like my opinion would be
irrelevant, but I'm still -1.

If Python semantics is chosen,  I would also ask for a compiler
directive (perhaps comand line disabled) to select C semantics. In all
this thread, backward compatibility with Cython itself and Pyrex was
not taken into account. A compiler directive will ease a lot user code
updates for the new semantics.
