Hey. I got a few late here. I think the template syntax needs to be simple, "readable" and easy to use and implement (I think this is obvious).
I saw here some options really unreadable. I vote for the [] syntax. It's easy to understand and the __getitem__ could be used here. I think it will be easier to choose one syntax when somebody try to implement it (is anybody doing it?). This way, we get more concrete solutions (and problems) for it.
