In the end I did solve the problem, I wrote a pure C function that did the work for me and took types that cython supported, and wrapped that with cython, then linked them both together to make my module. It worked with very little code and effort, however may not be the cleanest of solutions. If interested I can post my code somewhere for people to see. Mike "Fuzzy" Partin
