MY FATHER, NOW DECEASED. FOUGHT IN WW 1 AND NEVER RETURNED TO SADAGORA. HE WAS
VERY CLOSED MOUTH ABOUT HOW HE CAME TO THE US. HE NEVER
WENT BACK HOME UNDER INSTRUCTIONS FROM HIS FAMILY. HE WANDERED EUROPE WITH A
BROTHER AND THE ITALIAN SOLDIER (NOW DECEASED) WHO ALSO TOOK A BROTHER WITH
THEM UNDER INSTRUCTIONS FROM THE ITALIAN SOLDIER'S MOTHER. THE TWO STAYED CLOSE
FRIENDS OVER THE YEARS ALTHOUGH ENEMIES DURING WW1. ALL FOUR ARE NOW DECEASED
BUT NEVER WANTED TO DISCUSS THE FOUR YEARS OF WAR AND THEIR WANDERINGS. THEY
LEARNED EACH OTHERS LANGUAGES AS WELL AS SLANG THEY COULD PASS FOR ONE ANOTHER.
THEY HAD MANY STORIES TO TELL BUT STAYED AWAY FROM THE WAR YEARS AND CERTAIN
STORIES OF THEIR WANDERINGS

Subject: [czernowitz-l] Help identifying person and military unit

Hello.
I believe this is a photo of my grandfather, Moses Reder, that lived in
Czernowitz with his family. He fought during WWI for the Austrian Army.
Can anyone help me identify the Army Unit that he was with?  I understand that
men from Czernowitz had their own unit but I can not find information about it.
I also tried to reach the Lviv Military archives, in Ukraine.  Supposedly,
after the end of WWI, the military records of the Czernowitz soldiers were sent
to Lemberg (today, Lviv).  Does anyone have suggestions on how to find any
information about the military record of Moses Reder?   Last, but certainly not
least,  if anyone has any information about family Reder from Czernowitz,
please contact me.   Please note that this is NOT  the same family as the one
that the artist Bernard Reder comes from.  It is possible that the two families
were  related but I am not aware of any direct and immediate connection.  My
grandfather was a trunk maker (Kofferraumbauer).
Thank you.
Moshe Reder
