Hi Berti,

While the pre 1929 vital records can be found on FamilySearch.org via the
Czernowitz Jewish Record listings, you can find 1933 records among “Civil
Registrations, 1930-41”:
https://www.familysearch.org/search/catalog/1632161?availability=Family%20History%20Library

With page and record numbers given on Geneasearch, it doesn’t take too long to
find a specific record.

Thanks for providing Sharon with information on addresses!

Best wishes,
Bruce

Hi Sharon, Bruce,
I went the same way as Bruce but could not find the 1933 Registry book.
For what it is worth I could compare the address Iancu Zota, ex Josefsgasse 26
to the present situation. It is now Ukrainscaia 52
with another entrance from around the corner Shevchenko 43. Neuweltgasse.
Happy further research.
Berti.

Hi Sharon,
The Hersch Lessing buried in the Czernowitz Jewish Cemetery is the same one who
was born in 1887 in Dorna Vatra. He is the son of Haim and Beile Lessing, and
the spouse of Sali, nee Reinstein.

You can find the death record by searching on
Czernowitz.geneasearch.net<http://Czernowitz.geneasearch.net> . With the
“details” information on that site, you can view the actual record among Civil
Registrations of Czernowitz deaths, 1933, record 1080, via
familysearch.org<http://familysearch.org> . I’ll send you a copy of this
record; it’s too large to post here.

Best of luck in your hunt for more information!

Bruce

Subject: [czernowitz-l] Seeking more information on Hersch Lessing
My great great grandparents, Chaim LESSING and Lea nee’ BESNER LESSING, had at
least three sons… Mortko Abraham, Rubin ( my great grandfather) and Hersch.
If there were other children, I do not know about them but would like to, as
well as learn anything else about Chaim and his family.

I have all of Mortko’s descendants and of course Rubin’s, but the only thing I
can find on Hersch is he was born on 7/2/1887 in Dorna Vatra (today’s Vatra
Dornei) and a listing on Jewishgen for a Hersch Lessing who died in 1933 and is
buried in the Czernowitz Cemetery. I do not know if this is him or not since
there were other Lessing families in Romania.
