What was his "tragic" ending? Aizic and I, we were in touch for many years. In September 2020, at the peak of the Corona pandemic, we corresponded intensely. Aizic's wisdom of life, his empathy and not least his fine sense of humor, emerge from the following lines, which I would like to quote here. «Like you Edgar we all here are really worried. In my wildest dreams, I never thought we here the such clever "start-up, nation," would find itself stumped, by such a microscopic microbe. Dear Edgar, we are on the eve of Yom Kippur, so I ask your forgiveness for being in such a pessimistic mood. I really wish I could be writing to you in a more optimistic matter. So let us hope, pray, that our very wise leaders will start thinking "outside of the box," and come up with a genuine genius solution to combat COVID-19. As we say here in Israel (as we try to be optimistic) we are also a nation of survivors, all through the ages, So our battle cry today is, "We survived Pharoh, we will survive COVID-19. Take care, stay well, safe, and in good health.» Aizic will be so deeply missed by me and everyone who knew him. May the entire Sechter family be consoled and may his memory be for a blessing. He had a long and adventurous life, yet the end was tragic: https://www.haaretz.co.il/magazine/obit/2023-03-06/ty-article/00000186-b5ef-d171-a59e-bdefaecf0000 He’ll be remembered for so many things, including his insight, sense of humor, wit and command of the intricacies of languages. We met through online genealogy, of course, and got to know each other in person when I spent 6 months in Nes Ziona in 1999, while working at Machon Volcani. During that period, he took me for a most memorable visit to the Sadagora Rebbe to learn about family. Several years ago, he and Itta came to New York while visiting various parts of the United States. He stopped here in my home town for a very exciting visit. While leading him to their next stop in Ithaca, New York, I stopped on a hillside overlooking Cayuga Lake and it was such an unexpected sight for them to see. He said something about never having seen such a large body of fresh water in his entire life. Of course he had many flowery words for the sight, as only a journalist might have. He had extraordinary vigor and a most active mind. I loved the way he probed into all aspects of family history with his many questions. May his memory be for a blessing.
