Dear Czernowitzers,
thank so much for the input, in the meantime I realized that this is the
paragraph we have to focus on:

„By legal definition in accordance with § 58c StbG, persecuted ancestors are
considered to be:“
[…]
„Persons who were Austrian citizens and, between January 30, 1933 and May 9,
1945, did not have a main place of residence within the federal territory of
Austria because - in case of their return or entering Austria for the first
time to establish a main residence - would have feared persecution by organs of
the NSDAP or of the authorities of the German Reich“
Since Leon was her great-great-grandfather, all we need now is proof of his
Austrian citizenship.
Leon and his family were in the Chernivtsi ghetto in 1941, after which they hid
in the attic of their Christian maid until the end of the war. His son Max was
murdered by Nazis on May 3rd, 1945, his daughters Fanni and Naomi later settled
in Beit She‘an. Pinus, his wife Pepi, their sons Edi and Bubi also settled in
Israel.
Leon‘s wife Jeanette died on the way to Israel in July 1946 in Bacau while Leon
passed away on July 30th, 1947 in Bucarest.
>From the documents that Mykola Kushnir sent me, it appears that both brothers
>saw each other as Austrian nationals, dated at the end of 1918 and beginning
>of 1919.
Pinus always referred to himself as an Austrian in his diaries - they are
available to the public via the USHMM in Washington.
A diary entry from March 1918 also shows that Pinus actually traveled to Vienna
to settle his citizenship and to present the necessary documents.
The two trade licenses were issued, later so I now assume that both have
successfully applied for full Austrian citizenship.
Are there documents I can use to prove this? Where to look?
Best,
Jens
