I want to validate Edgar’s suggestion with my own experience tracing some of my
maternal grandfather Mordko (Macmx) Hirschberg’s family, not from Czernowitz or
Bukovina, but from Lublin Poland.

I learned from a participant in the IAJGSthat Warsaw meeting that Antwerp
maintains a close relationship with genealogists in Poland and has since been a
source of otherwise obscure information and documents that helped me write a
biography of my maternal grandmother for the Jewish Museum in Curaçao.

So I highly endorse Edgar’s suggestion of exploring the archives for
ancestors, and not just limited to those from Czernowitz.

Czernowitzers...

At the end of the year, I would like to point you to a most interesting source
for your research. Antwerp in Belgium was the first stop for many people,
including those from Bukowina, on their way to the West and overseas. The
FelixArchief in Antwerp has over one million (!) dossiers from the aliens
registration authorities, most of which have been digitized:

https://felixarchief.antwerpen.be<https://felixarchief.antwerpen.be/>

After registration, you will have access to the fully scanned files and often
to photos. Under the search term "Czernowitz", for example, you can find 186
files, from Joseph Aronowicz (*1873) to Joseph Zwetler (*1881). I was able to
find documents about my family from Tarnobrzeg in Galicia in the FelixArchief,
which brought to me 216 new relatives, most of them in the UK and USA, over the
holidays; one of them is Alan Gavurin from our Group. Great, almost a (small)
Christmas fairy tale!

I wish you all a happy New Year, but first and foremost I wish for lasting
peace for and in Israel!
