Dear friends, hello!
I’m attaching an article:
>From the Chernivtsi Realit website, published by Elena Karpenko
Today, 27.11.2025, in our hometown, the multicultural city of Chernivtsi, an
event occurred that makes your hair stand on end. It shook the entire Jewish
community in Chernivtsi, Ukraine, and I am sure, the entire world. A fire broke
out in the Sadigura Synagogue, one of the ancient and important spiritual
centers of Bukovina.
According to initial law enforcement reports, the suspect has already been
arrested. According to the information, this is a person with mental disorders.
I cannot understand how this could happen.
The Sadigura Synagogue was the heart of the Friedman Hasidic dynasty. It was
precisely here that the famous tzaddik Israel Friedman of Ruzhyn lived, taught,
and received visitors.
This sanctuary survived wars, persecutions, Soviet times - and was recently
restored.
Personally, I had tears in my eyes because just a few months ago, we were there
with the Jewish community of “Aviv” and the volunteer community. It is
stunningly beautiful, majestic, captivating at first sight. And when you enter
inside, it simply takes your breath away.
I am certain that the entire Jewish community of our city, and not only it -
every normal, rational person - is devastated to the point of pain by this
news. The synagogue is not just a building; it is a place of prayer, memory,
culture. It is our heritage.
When a synagogue burns, it is not just a crime against a religious object.
It is a blow to history, culture, and the heart of the community. It is very
painful and very frightening.
