FWIW, MySQL allows column-level encodings. I'm not sure that there is an answer to this problem. If someone is dealing with a table with varying column-level encodings, I don't think anything we are doing in Dabo would handle this.

Yeah, I agree there isn't an answer, but is there something simple we can do (hopefully not involving changing the default Encoding back to latin-1) that would keep absolute newbies to Dabo from having to think about the issue?
