I went with the latest that Ubuntu offered. If you know of a source for FB2 for Ubuntu, let me know! -- Ed Leafe -- http://leafe.com -- http://dabodev.com ---------------------------------------------------------- Ed, if you want to, you could use the one from firebirdsql.org. http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/firebird/FirebirdSS-2.0.0.12748-0.nptl.i686.tar.gz or http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/firebird/FirebirdCS-2.0.0.12748-0.i686.tar.gz depending on what model you like more. I'm using FB-SS here. The problem with the debian/ubuntu packeges is that they are patched versions of the official packages. So if there are problems, you might get better help from firebird-support. using the official server. Uwe This is what the debian maintainer wrote to me: ----------------------------------------------- Hi, Uwe, -=| Uwe Grauer, 11.01.2007 11:02 |=- > > as you seem to be the debian/ubuntu maintainer of the firebird package, Only Debian maintainer, in fact. Instead it is some sort of firebird 1.5.3. I quite understand your frustration about this. > > Why the hell is it named firebird2? Historical reasons. The name will be changed with the upcoming release of 1.5.4. That decision was made before me taking over maintenance and I never got to changing it. The reasons for naming it firebird2 was that at that time, there was some belief that this new c++-based firebird version will be indeed 2.0. This has not happened, but the package name stayed. > > Now i'm going to have to tell all ubuntu firebird users to not use the > > debian/ubuntu firebird packages because they didn't get what they > > expected it to be. Except thosw who read the long description of the packages. Anyway, thank you for your report and know that the problem is being worked on. dam [1] firebird1.5 is the name of the source package. Binary packages will be named like firebird1.5-classic, firebird1.5-common etc. -- Damyan Ivanov Modular Software Systems [EMAIL PROTECTED] phone +359(2)928-2611, 929-3993 fax +359(2)920-0994 mobile +359(88)856-6067 [EMAIL PROTECTED]/Gaim _______________________________________________ Post Messages to: [email protected] Subscription Maintenance: http://leafe.com/mailman/listinfo/dabo-dev
