Some of you may have noticed that I've been somewhat scarce these
past few weeks, so I thought I'd at least let you all know what's
going on.

I got my first steady Python gig, so I've been putting a lot of time
into that. Can't get into the project too much, since it's a
commercial app, and NDA/trade secrets come into play. Unfortunately,
though, they've already committed to a wxPython/XRC approach, so I
couldn't talk them into using Dabo for the UI. After working with the
commercial tool DialogBlocks for a week or so, though, I'm more
convinced than ever that I'm on the right path with the Dabo Class
Designer and the eventual IDE. The tool works fine, but the output is
XRC, and there is so much stuff that goes into making the XRC
accessible from Python that it is a real pain to create anything
other than simple stuff. For example, I want to create a custom panel
class that can be re-used in several forms/wizards; this would be
brain-dead simple in Dabo. But in DialogBlocks/XRC, it's a real pain,
and we haven't been able to make it work yet. Oh, well, that's their
decision.

The other thing is that it is finally outdoor soccer season here in
upstate NY, so I've been busy refereeing. The past two weekends I
worked a few tournaments, too, so that's eaten up my free time, not
to mention wearing out my ancient body. Try spending several hours
running around with 15-19-year-olds, and you feel every one of your
fifty years!

But I'm still working on ideas for Dabo, especially the IDE stuff.
I've written some down in the wiki, but others are still just rough
visions for now. I also want to do a screencast on the new dDockForm
stuff, just to show how simple it is to create dynamic UIs using
these classes. But there are only so many hours...
