At least on the Mac, the active field will get wiped out. If you tab
off the field, the changes get flushed to the data source, but if you
are editing a field and then issue self.update() without tabbing off
the field, the changes aren't preserved. I made changes to a field,
opened up the command window, ran self.update(), and the field
reverted to the original value.
