FWIW, keep in mind that different UI systems render things differently.
Under some, the label for a checkbox is a full 'window'; in others, it's simply
text that's drawn on its parent, and thus can't respond to mouse clicks, etc.
To make things more complicated, each OS imposes restrictions on how controls
can appear: on OS X, for example, you can't change the color of a button (or
its text color, or its height, or...). You also can't change the color of text
on a checkbox, no matter what wx calls we make. If you *really need* red text
on a checkbox, you'll have to create a composite control with an unlabeled
checkbox and a regular label.
