Hello Carl,

Just following along the discussion. I have been watching the development of dabo and have taken a look at nvu. I have also been following developments in python and other open source IDEs with visual design tools (is there an acronym specific to those) in general.

IMO, if you have the knowledge and the drive to push dabo forward here is where I think the effort would be best placed. I list them in the order I think will produce the desired results:

1. Get on the team with Paul and Ed and drive their IDE efforts forward. I put this number one as I am very impressed with their progress.

2. If your motivation is web based then look at XUL from Mozilla.

3. Look at Pythoncard and see how a marriage between it and dabo can be accomplished. I put this third as I don't think pythoncard has aims to become a full IDE with a visual design tool. However, if you want to rip something apart then this would seem a good place to start for:

a) pythoncard takes the approach of making simple things that work and growing from there. 2) They have a pretty neat visual design tool. Sizers is, I believe, a weakness.
3) The one thing it lacks is a code generator in the guise of Delphi or VB.

I suspect pythoncard has been rejected by the dabo team as it is firmly fixed in wxPython roots and dabo has plans to be not be so.

Just my tuppence worth,

Norman
