You know that old saw called Murphy's Law? "If anything can go
wrong, it will". Well, there's a second part to it: "...and at the
worst possible time".
Yesterday morning I had my left knee scoped (that's arthroscopic
surgery for you non-jocks) to repair some cartilage tears. I left the
house about 8:30am; the cable modem service went out at about
10:30am. I'm doing fine, but decided to take a day off from computers
while I recovered. This morning I looked at my email, and saw that
nothing had come across since yesterday morning. Of course, my
workstation is in my office on the second floor, while the cable
modem and server are down in the basement, so I had to hobble with my
crutches down 2 flights of stairs in order to power-cycle the modem.
Things seem to be fine now.
BTW, the knee is coming along fine. There's no need to pass
along "best wishes for a speedy recovery". It's easier if I just
assume that everyone wishes me well; this way, only the people who
want to see my discomfort prolonged need to write. ;-)
