include the dbc as part of the exe, and everyone gets a private/local copy and 
that problem goes away.

I agree with the messy part, but to me that isn't the essance of a view.

A) they aren't significantly faster - the significant hit is server processing 
and or through put of the result set.

B) SPT alone isn't updateable.
