Most likely you are doing nothing wrong.  I'm truly sorry for your 
frustration!  You have caught Dabo's team at a transition point.  In the next 
few days the next release will be out.  So you could just wait for the next 
release or get the latest version from www.dabodev.com using SVN.  Most 
window users use TortoiseSVN to get the latest code.  There is a link on Dabo
http://dabodev.com/wiki/TortoiseSVN

Dabo requires 
python 2.4 but 2.5 would be better.
wxPython 2.6 but 2.8 would be better- unicode.

When you download wxPython make sure you are matching the version to what ever 
version of Python you are using.

If you decide to download the latest using SVN please review the wiki for 
added help.  But feel free to ask questions here.

BTW welcome to Dabo.  Anybody, willing to work until 2AM I know will be an 
asset to Dabo.
