Well, I'm in the middle of updating my Ubuntu VM, but I can confirm
that all the properties you mentioned work on Windows XP. On OS X,
ForeColor has no effect, and BackColor colors the area *behind* the
control, but the control itself remains grey-ish.
My guess is that Gtk doesn't support these particular effects for
these controls.
