        Unfortunately, Gtk throws lots of "critical" messages with wxPython  
that aren't really critical.

        Hmmm... is there a way to determine which version of Gtk is running?  
I don't have my Ubuntu system handy at the moment, but I'm wondering  
if that could be the difference.
