I have brought this issue up before and I think it's worth looking into again...
It would be nice if the virtual fields triggered the memento function, so a user's input can be validated. If no validate function is specified, then the object should be disabled, assuming it is a dTextBox or other similar object. For example, we want to use the vf to return the value a field from another table. If the user updates the field, then we need to validate the value. We are using numeric pk as foreign keys and we want to show the user a meaningful value such as a description. We can probably get around this by joining the bizobj to the table to show the value, but it would make dabo behave more consistently and there are probably other situations where it would be beneficial to have it function this way.
