Because you had the sense to mark the tab with a * when there is anything to save, I just learn to check that after pressing CTL-S. The shortcut always works when you first start Dabo Editor. It usually works if you only have 1 or 2 files open. It seems to be mostly when you have 3 or more that the problems come. Often it will resume again. Just reducing the number of files open has no affect.
