First let me say that I assume you are only talking about the install process.
Because I have had little to no support issues after install with my customer
base.

With respect to installing postgres on the different platforms has been taken
care by the good guys at EDB. All that is required by the install is to
accept the defaults and they can't go wrong - if you want EDB. Companies like
xTuple have created install routines that are flexible enough to cover most
install situations using the correct tools for the platform. So I know it can
be done. That would cover single user situations.

The real issue is when you add a server to the mix, or if they already have
Postgres running. In theses cases I have never found a way to get around a
hands on approach. To make matters worse it has been reported that Postgres
runs best on Linux. So naturally I have always suggested adding a Linux
server if possible. But as I said - there has been little in the way of after
install database support required.

But in the end I don't see the install issues any different than what I had to
do in the past with VFP or MsSQL.

Side Note: I'm finding more clients with a Linux server available. To make
matters worse each Linux distro is a little different when it comes to the
install. Just one more issue.
