Hi, Iain Simpson took me up on my request to help out with a paper on his personal experience getting started with Dabo. I think it's great and I'm awaiting his approval to post it (I offered to send it to Ed and Paul for review and I'm waiting for an answer).
In the paper he suggested that there is a need for a "beginners FAQ". I like the idea. I see it different from the tutorial sections we have currently. I think it would cover all the straight forward questions that come up. For example: If you see this error: It means you need to add a requery() statement. If you need to create an import in ClassDesigner - click here, type in the import statement. I seem to recall answering that one several times. Questions that newbie's seem to always ask. Yes, many will be repeats of information that is currently on the wiki. But as with dictionaries one has to have idea how to spell a word to find the correct spelling of the word in the dictionary. It's same with our wiki format - the newbie has to have some idea of what is being requested and what terminology is being used to find an answer on the wiki. Just consider us calling windows/frames" forms". Not everybody calls them forms. Although, today's web and javascript guys call it a form. We use the term bizObj everywhere. Yet, Django, QT and many others call it "model". I have only one concern - how would I structure the beginners FAQ? Just list them as they come up? Or create sections. What would the sections be?
