John, I have been collating English-based resource material for gvSIG on my website. This would be a reasonable place to start. I have included links to other repositories. This will be where I publish my tutorials when they are completed.
gvSIG although written by Spaniards has been translate to English. Comprehensive English documentation is what is missing. http://www.botanicusaustralia.com.au/Technology.html http://www.botanicusaustralia.com.au/gvSIG.html gvSIG works with PostgresSQL. If you are interested in geospatial analysis/mapping and what is out there, try the osgeo-discuss mail list. This group is a great group of people that will help you identify potential packages that might also fit your needs (i.e. ability to programmatically collate and present geospatial data; there are a range of good alternatives, especially if you just want to present 'maps') http://www.osgeo.org/mailman/listinfo/discuss If you have any off-topic geospatial enquiries I am happy to help. I am on the osgeo mail list as well, and if you post a question there I will see it.
