After installing wxPython Demo I tested with the AUI - under the Recent 
Additions/Updates and all worked (or appears to work).  There is a lot going 
on in the wxPython demo - but the same drag and drop worked.  I just pulled a 
tab down to bottom and crashed the Dabo Demo.

openSUSE 11.4, python 2.7, wxPython 2.8.11.  The wxPython Demo is 2.8.11.
