I know exactly what you mean, and it is really nice to meet people that feel this way because we are rare! Welcome to Dabo and please keep writing messages telling us of your successes and failures. I'm going to need to figure out the cross-platform solution to your question soon, so I for one would really appreciate whatever you find out. I'd start looking in wxPython: somebody has likely solved this problem already - or close to it - and we could start there. Then we could wrap that in Dabo and the next newbie would have other difficult problems to solve, but not this particular one. That's how Dabo and everything in the open-source world was built: one step at a time by many people with different perspectives and experience levels.
