That doesn't work.
What does self.Record.amount refer to? I am thinking it's not referring to
anything here maybe?

Perhaps it is the formatting in your function? You have:
def getDisplayAmount(self):
return "%.4D" % self.Record.amount
Try changing it to
def getDisplayAmount(self):
return "%.4f" % self.Record.amount
