it was not exactly a secret that Windriver is letting Vxworks-type ecosystem
"go" . as a major provider of embedded goodness they are promoting their
"reliable" Linux now for sometime and recently i am constantly getting webcast
invitations how to move my DSP based business into a new more "Open" world of
Open Source Linux with assurances of Windriver in addition to support TI-scale
DSP hardware up to monster Xilinix FPGAs .
personally i haven't invested millions in hacking or protecting Embedded
processing systems but as the industry is moving fast toward more compatibility
and lesser proprietary platforms , whether it is hardware or software , the
"Horizontal Nature" of easy and low-learning-curve Digital world will let more
and more unsupervised or underage or shortsighted or night-only intruders get
almost a free finger up to your ass , literally . unlike the "Vertical Nature"
of old protected Electrical-engineering-type world development we experienced
20 years ago . i am not beating the dead horse of old debates between Security
versus Safety knights . what i am asserting though is getting more Horizontal
is certainly not a good news if you are investing into being a serious honest
whitehat or a dark-ops badass blackhat . playing with or against Children or
played by them is no fun for me . respects to opinion of Parents or
Child-molesters on dd anyway ;)
