A Reflection on Today's Scripture:
Pray constantly . . .
The only sense, with all that is going on around us: election
recounts, and tragedies of all sorts, is that we must pray even more
- much more. We must pray more for the will of God to be realized. We
must pray more that we might fulfill the will of God in all that we
do. And we must pray earnestly, that we might grow in faith, a deeper
spirituality.
One of my favorite analogies on prayer is given by Vicka, the
visionary in Medjugorje. She says: Our hearts are like a flower. If
we water the flower each day it grows to be a beautiful, perfect
flower. In the same way that water nourishes the flower, prayer
nourishes our heart. If we stop watering the flower, it withers and
dies. In the same way, if we stop praying, our heart withers from
lack of prayer.
We should strive to renew prayer in our families, and become even
more fervent in our own personal daily prayer. As Jesus taught and
now our Blessed Mother has said: "You have forgotten that with prayer
and fasting you can ward off wars, suspend natural laws."
