A Reflection on Today's Scripture:
The Divine Allegory
Today's letter to the Hebrews explains the divine allegory of the
temple's bloody sacrifice of animals. By divine plan, Jesus the Son
of God came to us in his human form to offer his flesh and blood in
atonement for our sins and for those of all humanity.
Therefore, it was necessary for Jesus to come upon the world as a
normal-appearing person, even though he was of Divine origin. It was
necessary for the people to have known him, to have seen him, to have
heard him speak. When he began to preach his divine mission, the
people started wondering what sort of strangeness overcame him as
seen in today's short gospel from St. Mark. We have to admit that
events got attention!
By the grace of God, after all the sacred events of Jesus' life had
taken place -- the teaching, the sacrifice, the resurrection and the
ascension into heaven -- the early apostles and disciples pieced
together this marvelous divine story! Now, again by the grace of the
Holy Spirit upon us, we can fathom the inestimable divine providence
bestowed upon us, as it beckons, prods and attracts us to the eternal
life intended for us, though once lost by Adam's fall.
Now we know the Mercy of the Father in sending His Son. How shall we
respond to this, the most generous action ever bestowed upon the
earth, upon all humankind?
