A Reflection on today's Scripture:
Being individuals, each of us experiences God in a unique way;
however when we approach the Communion Table our hearts should have
some concerns in common. For example, it profits us to first examine
our consciences and make a sincere Act of Contrition; for these
earthen vessels we occupy often need cleansing in preparation for
receiving Christ, the all holy God.
Because Christ loves us infinitely, everlastingly, unconditionally
and gave Himself totally on the cross that we might have eternal
life, we should be moved to a prayer of thanksgiving. This giving of
Himself to us should also cause us to generously return the love He
pours out on us from His pierced heart. And the proof that we
genuinely love Him in return will be seen in our relationship with
others, our sharing with them the love God in Christ gratuitously
gives us.
We who are being sustained by God's Word, Christ, and Whose life will
continue to nourish us throughout eternity, have a debt to pay, an
obligation to make Him known in this world. We cannot call ourselves
Christian unless we bear His divine Image, share His Godly
characteristics; for God our Father has willed that we be united to
Him and to one another in His Son. This unity is expressed by our
eating one bread and drinking of one cup
Having consumed the Eucharist, the Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity of
Christ, dare we live in a manner that obscures His love and truth?
Blessed Redeemer,
help us live an undivided love for You,
pouring out our lives in loving service for your kingdom. Amen.
