A Reflection on Today's Scripture:
The revelation that Jesus, the Son of God, spent His night in prayer
before preaching the next day, fills us with wonder. What? The Son of
God needs to pray before undertaking His work of uttering the Good
News? Preposterous! Why does God need to pray?
Because in prayer is the power of God and the strength of the Word --
without communion with the Father, Jesus did NOTHING. If that is so
(and it is!), then how presumptuous of us to undertake any work of
God without prayer. How can it possibly work the Father's will unless
it is bolstered, directed, and make fruitful by the power of the
Spirit through prayer? Accompanying every good word was prayer.
May I always remember this lesson of Scripture. Jesus always prayed
before revealing the Father's love, truth, and compassion. How
foolish of me to ignore His Way!
