A Reflection on Today's Scripture:
We all have the desire to belong, to be part of a group, to be
accepted, not to be ignored -- even God, it would seem. Otherwise why
would He have been so hurt and angry when His banquet invitation is
ignored? And he really reacts! There is no more option -- they're out
-- excluded. And whom does He invite? The ones who don't expect an
invitation. They've been left out of society so often that their
sensitivities are numbed -- or are they? They must have been amazed
and delighted beyond belief. How important respect and gratitude are.
Those two emotions win us the esteem of the Lord. They make up for
the slights, insults, and ridicule heaped on the Creator of all the
living. A word to the wise! Let's never be guilty again of slighting
the Host who provides for us in abundance each day -- and invites us
daily to partake of His own Body and Blood -- in the Eucharist, in
His Word, and in the cries of the poor, the neglected, and the
abused."
