A Reflection on Today's Scripture:

Our first reading today is so very familiar that we need to
concentrate on the first idea -- that the souls of the righteous are
safe in the hands of God. Who are the righteous (not
"self-righteous")? They are those who cheerfully wait on the Master
without need for constant praise. They serve as a matter of
obedience, responsible for the gifts that have been given them, and
grateful beyond words that they have been given employment in the
courts of the Master.

Faithfulness is all -- ripeness (maturity) is everything. A staunch,
faithful, and humorous pastor-friend of mine has a framed admonition
in his rectory dining-room that reads "NO WHINING!" To serve without
need for being patted on the back at every turn is the attitude of
real lovers of their Lord. Lord, help me to cheerfully pick up my
daily cross and think of others more than myself. If I do so, I will
securely rest in the hands of God, and shall shine and dart about as
sparks through stubble."
