A Reflection on Today's Scripture:
Amongst the noise of the earth there are thousands upon thousands of
words that we encounter each week, if not each day. How could one
take in so much and not have it effect their life. These effects will
ether steer us one way or another. As much as we may not want to
think about them, we must do it -- or risk journeying in the wrong
direction.
There is a verse in today's Psalm that says the light will dawn on
the just. If we trust in the grace of God, His Holy Spirit will shine
this light each day on our path, directing our lives rightly. Jesus
quickly points out that not mere humanness should consume us, but
more so the Word of God. He was not discrediting his holy mother's
place, but showing us the priorities that are most important.
The Liturgy of the Word through the Divine Office or the Mass, is not
just prayer, it is one of the ways God voices himself, brings grace
to us. If we hear the Word and allow it to transform us, we ourselves
become like Jesus, a living message to the lost and broken hearted.
If we merely listen to His word and don't allow it to change us, to
take root in our hearts, then how are we to reach out to others?
Jesus,
draw me close enough to you
So your voice alone
will change me.
