    The Holy Innocents

Scripture from today's Liturgy of the Word:
    1 John 1:5--2.2
    Psalm 124:2-5,7-84
    Matthew 2:13-18

A Reflection from Holy Scripture . . .

The Gospel today tells us again the story of the Holy Innocents and
their massacre; and how Joseph, in a dream, was told to take Jesus
and Mary to Egypt. This story also tells us of a man named Herod, who
was so afraid of losing his power, that he stooped to killing
children just to be assured of his position.

What is the excuse that is used today for the killing of our present
generation?

Is it a lifestyle that has to be altered?  Is it too expensive to
contemplate twenty years ahead to the cost of college? No more
diapers, no more losing sleep with a sick child? I've done my share!

The greatest gift of my life was parenting. It is the hardest job
you'll ever find on this earth! But oh, the rewards, watching the
children grow and mature, watching them stand independently and make
great choices for their own lives, and now the blessing of watching
the next generation grow!

Thank you Lord for the precious gift of life. Help us always to
treasure and respect it until you call us home to you.

Amen, Amen.
